Adult Education: Practices of Prayer

Another of our classes beginning tonight is "Practices of Prayer," led by a variety of St. Paul's parishioners over the course of six weeks.

April 15th: Introduction to Prayer
Led by Diane Parker
It has been said that there are as many ways to pray as there are people. During Easter season we will have the opportunity to learn about several forms of prayer. But in the first class of the series we will look at some of the basic principles that underlie all forms of prayer. Come to class with your questions about prayer.

April 22nd : Godly Play - Praying Playfully with Story.
Led by Lindsay Knight
Come hear and “work” with some Bible stories! Experience the powerful language we are teaching our children.

April 29th: Labyrinth
Led by Charlene Cunningham
Tired of rushing around in circles? Come and walk a purposeful path that leads to the heart of God. We will discuss some of the history, the symbolism, and possible approaches to, as well as helpful suggestions for getting the most out of your walk of the labyrinth. Then we will walk. Some people have described the walk as a "moving prayer", others as "a time to be quiet and hear the still small voice of God", and others as "peaceful meditation". We invite you to learn about this tool to enhance and add variety to your prayer life.

May 6th: Anglican Prayer Beads
Led by Father Chuck
Make your own set of prayer beads and learn how to use them in your practices of prayer.

May 13th: Visio Divina
Led by Adriana Collins
It is inspired by an Orthodox tradition where visual art is used to cultivate prayer with God through our senses.

May 20th: Centering Prayer
Led by Ron Weitnauer and Laurie Parrish
Come learn the "basics" of Centering Prayer based on the methods of Father Thomas Keating, with an expanded discussion of the benefits and tips and tricks from experience.
