This novel is set in a fictional town in northeastern Colorado and tells the interlocking stories of some of the residents.  The title comes from a type of unadorned music sung in Christian churches, and is a reference to the Great Plains setting and the simple style of writing.

Alan says, “It was a critical and popular success and had been a finalist for the National Book Award for fiction. It is a simple narrative with depth and I think we will find a lot in it to think about.” Used, e-books, or new copies may be purchased online.
