In today's world we are bombarded with invititations to "look" and "notice". It's everywhere, the internet, advertising, TV, billboards... sometimes we need a break from having to "look" at so much stuff.
We have a deep need to follow God's first imperative to Adam and Eve: "Behold!" It's from the Old English word bihaldan, bi-‘thoroughly’ + haldan‘to hold.’
It's not an invitation, it's a command. Wake up! Look around! Let God's love and Jesus' message, soak in.
As Paul says in Ephesians: "open the eyes of your heart" and thoroughly hold something sacred and wonderful. Let go of the need to conquer, understand, master and dominate.
The command "BEHOLD!" occurs 1,326 times in the King James version of the Bible. Think it might be important?
