May 29, 2016 - Love one another with reckless abandon

Reverend Vollkommer recounts her experience in a prayer group that was formed to support a friend's prolonged fight with cancer. They met weekly, often at his bedside, for two years. It was a diverse group united by their love for their friend, and were with him at the end of the man's life.

Marsha's lesson from this is very clear: in this  type of deep deep experience, God shows us how expansive is our capacity to love, and we should not avoid these things because through them we can get a taste of God's love for us.

The Collect:

O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and earth: Put away from us, we entreat you, all hurtful things, and give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
