Jesus' parables are a far cry from the formal language and high-mindedness of a wisdom story in Proverbs or Ecclesiastes. Sometimes Jesus' parables are downright painful to hear. They can be confusing, jolting, but always real. Just like our lives. They're meant to make us stop and think; they're intended to challenge our natural reactions.
In today's sermon Father Jonathan reminds us that some of Jesus highest praise is for folks that we would instinctively regard as cheating, ungrateful, wretched people. And yet they are forgiven. And this is what it's like to love things heavenly. Crazy forgiveness.
