Rev. Marsha reminds us of the wonders of our musical tradition and our hymnal.
It's more than a song book! The Hymnal 1982 could be viewed as one of the finest collections of sacred poetry in print.
It's Christian theology and meaning set to music, and we take our musical traditions very seriously. (We sing ALL the verses! We do not project the lyrics on the wall, so you'll have to use the hymnal!)
As you flip through the hymnal, note some of the composers and lyricists represented. It's a cultural treasure.
And in light of recent events around the nomination of a new Justice to the Supreme Court, Marsha offered this prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, by your patience in suffering you hallowed earthly pain and gave us the example of obedience to your Father’ will:
Be near us in our time of weakness and pain;
sustain us by your grace, that our strength and courage may not fail;
heal us according to your will.
Show us the courage and the will to live lives that are not simply safe, but holy, humane and decent.
Help us, here and now, to commit to treating every person as a child of God, deserving of dignity and respect.
We offer this to you, our Lord and our God. Amen.
